Ariel Adams Goes Hands On With The MONTA NOBLE - Full Video!

In this review, Ariel Adams thoughtfully details our elegant do-it-all watch: the MONTA Noble. He not only examines the Noble’s design features and technical specifications, but MONTA’s story, mission, and challenges as an American brand creating Swiss-Made watches. This hands-on review of the Noble is a perfect glimpse into its everyday wear. Inside and out, refinement is the name of the game. Ev

The Method Dial

After more than four years in development, we’re delighted to finally introduce the Model 3 to our core collection with the Model 3 Method. Here at anOrdain, collaboration is central to what we do - our in-house know-how spans enamelling, metalworking, design and watchmaking. The story of the Model 3 Method incorporates all of these and more, with the addition of some high-tech light scanning, las

How Different Watch Cases Wear

We all know that the dimensions of a watch greatly affect how a watch wears. Whether it’s the case diameter, the lug-to-lug length, the thickness or even the lug width, all play a part in determining how well a watch suits our wrist. The diameter of a case is the measurement we tend to focus on most, as it determines how much of the surface of the wrist a watch fills. However, the other measureme

How To Care For Your Leather Watch Strap

If you wear your watch every day, the average life span for a leather watch strap is approximately 1 year. However, under poor conditions, a strap could last as little as 6 months. It is therefore important for you to take good care of your leather watch strap in order to prolong its life. A well-cared-for leather watch strap could last 18 months or more. Conditions that will shorten the life of

How To Demagnetize Your Watch

If your watch is running very fast, then it most probably will have become magnetised. A watch commonly becomes magnetised through spending too long next to objects that emit strong magnetic fields, such as electrical devices. The most common are laptops, smartphones, domestic appliances and HiFi or mobile speakers.  To test if your watch is indeed magnetised, you can simply take a compass (a dig

Sunburst dial

Today we’re launching a new technique; new to us, and we think, new to watchmaking. The watch in question combines three decorative styles in a single effect that is, we believe, a first. It features a sunburst pattern – common enough, but normally achieved in a machine process that involves spinning and brushing the dial. Our sunburst, however, has been hand-engraved: every minuscule score (aroun

Introducing the Fabrik Collection

Since we started anOrdain, the craft of enamel dial-making is what we’ve been all about. However, we’ve long thought about other directions we could take our cartography-inspired aesthetic, and the different types of watches we could offer while staying true to our creative spirit. With the brand new Fabrik collection, that’s what we’ve set out to do. Many readers will recognise that this takes fo

Kielder Observatory: Moonphase Launch

The moonphase complication is one of the oldest and most elegant complications used in watchmaking today. However, you might not be aware of just how long humans have been tracking the lunar cycle.  Timekeeping has always been an intrinsic part of human civilization, and as a result, we’ve been using the Moon to help track the passage of time for millennia. The oldest confirmed lunisolar calenda

Meet the Maker: Martin Koval

Over the past couple of years, the team here in Glasgow has expanded a lot: we’re now up to 17 people in the studio, every one of them bringing something different and valuable to anOrdain. But perhaps no-one’s route here was more unlikely, or more unexpected, than that of Martin Koval, who joined our enamelling team in May. At the start of the year, he had no plans to be making watches: he was ex

The happy accident of the fumé dial

One of the pleasing things about working with vitreous enamel is its light-refractive qualities. Even the most opaque enamels have a particular vibrancy and depth of colour due to this quality. At the other end of the scale, transparent enamel gives you a vivid, jewel-like surface, which you can layer over engraved patterns that ripple through from beneath. Since we started, that’s something we’ve

Shoreham Airport: Antimagnetic Pilot Watch Launch

When it came to launching the Farer Pilot watches we had grand plans of heading down to the watch factory in Switzerland in a small plane. A flying visit to Roventa Henex to pick up the first editions, check in on the full production run and maybe find a moment for a spot of lunch. But no such luck. The effect of Covid-19 on Farer has so far meant disruption to our supply chain and of course,

Greenwich London: GMT Bezel Launch

The majority of our adventures tend to see us heading away from home- Scotland, Wales, Dorset or back to the factory in Switzerland to name a few. But to launch the GMT Bezel collection where better than the home of GMT- Greenwich, London. So we hoped on a beautifully built boat called Helena design by Naval Architect Vripack which was inspired by the old Swedish smuggler boats of the last ce

Struthers 248 dial

One thing we don’t do at anOrdain is make enamel dials for other brands. It’s not that it wouldn’t be a nice thing to offer, but all our resources are needed for making our own watches. However, there is one very special exception. We’re incredibly proud to have partnered during the past two years with Craig and Rebecca Struthers, the married couple behind Birmingham-based Struthers Watch- makers,

The Model 1 in Small, Medium and Large

We’re excited to release the new generation of the Model 1. After the second iteration of the Model 1's release in 2020, our latest collection presents the latest step in our dress watch's design evolution, with three options from which to choose: Small, Medium and Large.
