This is a purpose-built instrument that wandered into the lifestyle catalog, and I mean that as a partial compliment. The O-Megasteel alloy, developed alongside the actual Ultra Deep research vessel program, is genuinely harder and more corrosion-resistant than standard 316L. The cal. 8912 inside is a co-axial Master Chronometer rated to 15,000 gauss, which for a dive watch is almost comically overspecified - and I love it for that. The 46mm case wears every single one of those millimeters on the wrist. This is not a daily wearer for most people, full stop. The Summer Blue dial has a texture and depth that photographs terribly and wears beautifully. Bracelet is substantial but the clasp engineering here is top-tier. Niche pick. Absolutely committed niche pick.

The SBGJ265 runs the 9S86 Hi-Beat 36000 GMT movement - a caliber I've spent considerable time obsessing over across multiple references. Accuracy in my experience consistently beats the ±1 sec/day spec. But let's be honest: nobody picks up this reference for the movement alone. That dial. Whatever seasonal colorway Grand Seiko assigned here, the Shinshu atelier texture work is doing things that photography simply cannot capture. You have to hold it under varied light sources - fluorescent, natural, incandescent - and watch it shift. The Zaratsu-polished case has a few ergonomic compromises at the lug width that I think GS still hasn't fully resolved, and the bracelet, while solid, lacks the micro-adjustment sophistication of what you find on Swiss sport watches. None of that matters much when the dial is this mesmerizing.

The 126610LN - the post-2020 transition piece that finally bumped the Sub Date to 41mm and dropped the cal. 3235 in place of the long-serving 3135. I've worn both references back to back for extended periods and the 3235's 70-hour power reserve and improved Chronergy escapement are genuinely felt in daily use, not just spec-sheet bragging. The Oystersteel case finishing is about as close to perfect as production watches get at volume. Maxi dial with the flat-four handset reads beautifully at depth and in low light. My only real gripe - and it's a tired one - is secondary market pricing making the 'value' conversation absurd. The watch is worth what it is, but not what you're paying for it right now. Still the benchmark by which I compare every other dive watch I pick up.

The CK2998 is the first Speedmaster in space - worn by Wally Schirra during the Mercury Sigma 7 mission. The Alpha-hands, the black tachymeter bezel, the straight lugs - it's exactly what a chronograph should look like. Cal. 321 inside, of course. Any early Speedmaster is special but the CK2998 has that historical resonance that puts it in the pantheon.
